You hit the nail on the head. Cults like the Cult of the ML don't want people who are educated and can think for themselves because they cannot be controlled. Governments are aware of this fact as well. Look at the Khmer Rouge who killed millions focusing on anyone with an education. Teachers, lawyers, doctors......... were all targeted and killed so only the easy to control uneducated remained. Cutting funding to schools is just a less obvious way to dumb down citizens to control them.
