Re: GAPS Diet

HV, the intro diet to the Gaps diet as outlined in the link you posted, is intended to be moved through rather quickly. For me, it took about a week. From there, one moves into the full Gaps diet which is less restrictive.

Many people who go on this diet are suffering from extreme intestinal distress. Many are parents of autistic children. Dr NCM recovered her own autistic son with this diet.

I'm not an expert. But I believe that the fibrous parts of vegetables are discouraged in the beginning because they are hard to digest if one has a compromised digestive system.

I do believe that the meat is an important part of the diet. At least it has been for me. The gelatin in the broth and the collagen in the long cooked meat is very soothing. Certainly vegetables play a big part as well.

However, I'm still not where I would like to be, and that's why I'm here, always searching for clues, looking for more pieces to the puzzle.

Your emphasis on prebiotics has been an important piece which I had not seen stressed elsewhere. In fact, I was under the impression that FOS was bad for bacterial overgrowth, but my experience, from following your advice has shown otherwise.

Just today I came across this post on a blog I occasionally follow:

so maybe the word's getting out.
