Re: Oral Thrush - does it get worse before it gets better?

Thanks for the additional suggestions, Ruff - and please pardon me for my delays in responding to your messages. I strugggle with "issues" (depression, very low mental and physical energy) that make it hard for me to even respond to people's messages.

I try to incorporate vegetables (cooked or raw) with every "major" meal I have...partially to try to "balance" out the acidifying effect of proteins (do fats and carbs have acidifying effects, too?). I don't think I can do an "all-veggie" meal - there is evidence that I have a "metabolic" type that requires adequate (animal) proteins and fats. I think my body would "rebel" if I did the "all veggie" thing too often - it would scream "give me my meat!"

No - I don't drink chlorinated/fluoridated water - or at least I don't *think* I do. I buy "spring water" from Walmart - on the faith that it doesn't contain fluoride (I once tested the water for chlorine - and it passed. :) ). Ironically (and I may have mentioned this in my original post), my mom thinks my teeth problems is a result of doing all of this "alternative quackery" and not drinking fluoridated water. When I'm having the marked problems I'm having - discouragement can cause doubts, and these doubts have made me wonder if my mom is right on some level. When you're following the so-called "healthy", "alternative" protocol - and things don't work out as you had hoped/anticipated - it leaves you open to the "finger-pointing" and the "I told you sos" from those in your life who are steeped in conventional beliefs.

I seem to have this immensely frustrating problem where even taking nutritional supplements seem to make me too "acid" - which include acidic saliva that eat away at my tooth enamel. From my experience, it's not one specific supplement that causes this problem - the problem arises whenever I take pretty much *any* supplement in certain amounts (and it doesn't require very much supplementation at all for this problem to rear it's ugly head). For example - recent blood tests revealed that I'm anemic, so I thought I'd try taking 2 capsules of ferrous fumarate (for a total of 36mg) with one of my daily meals. Well - this seemed to result in tooth irritation and an "acidic" situation that promoted yet more decay. It's frustrating - because I've heard that iron-deficiency can cause/contribute to oral-thrush; yet - in trying to take iron to ultimately alleviate the oral-thrush problem, my teeth suffer from excess acidity.

Maybe I should try taking some supplements to increase my stomach acidity as you suggested. For years now, I've had symptoms of various hormonal imbalances - such as thyroid insufficiency, adrenal insufficiency, and sex-hormone imbalances - and I'm wondering if these hormonal imbalances are negatively affecting the way my body processes nutrients and contributing to this problem. And thyroid-problems, at least, can result in lowered stomach acid...

I don't know...it can be discouraging to try to figure out what in the heck is going on to cause this problem - and correcting this problem.

Anyway, hopefully this thread hasn't slipped so far down the page that you don't see this message.

P.S. - I forgot to mention that right around the time that this latest "acidity crisis" emerged (several days ago), I had eaten a couple of meals which included plenty of A1 Steak Sauce as a condiment. I wonder if there are ingredients in this sauce that would aggravate my oral thrush and/or acidity problems.
