Worrying developments, kids included

I am new, and I don't have much time now. My husband can get back any time, so if this message ends abruptly, please understand.

My husband has started keeping physically very close to me (almost never leaving me alone) during this vacation. He is even more "interested" than before about what I do on the computer, who I talk to on my cell etc.

We have a fairly long history (10+ years) and more than one child. He drank every evening for over a year, until I put my foot down some 1.5 years ago. I've asked him to go to conseling with me since our youngest was one. When I put my foot down, I said it was counseling or divorce. His father is an alcoholic, who still drinks. His parents are still married (!)

He seems to react to so many things with cranky or outright aggresive comments. He snaps at the kids. The scariest thing so far is, that when I get ill - I have a chronic physical condition, which flares up at times - he seems to be the happiest and calmest, all helpful and kind suddenly.

It is as if he is only happy when I or the kids are needy, when he can be the strong one, right about everything etc.

I started on a new medication over a year ago, which took away my almost chronic anxieties (pain kills the soul, trust me on that one). Our marriage has gone faster downhill since.

How do I get out, without him exploding into violence against myself or the kids? Any goos book suggestions? Anything? I have the money, but I would rather not have to go into complete hiding.
