Update:

Rico just had another "excellent health" check up. The Vet discovered a little piece of dirt in one of his ears, but there was no sign of any infection, and his hearing is excellent.

Kathy has recently gotten a little lazy on regular ear cleaning, and received a "lecture" on the importance of general ear hygiene. She promised to do a routine cleaning once a month... The Vet said that we are definitely on new ground now. Rico has never gone so long without an ear infection. His ears are looking absolutely great.

The next check up will probably be at the end of summer, but Kathy is not sure if this will be money well spent. Everyone agrees that Rico is doing well, and there has been no return of the ear infection. She may take the money spent on the Vet visit and go camping with Rico instead.
