As irritating as it is to assume that everything alternative medicine followers believe is wrong, it's equally wrong to believe that everything doctors or believers of western medicinal techniques are "biased". Really, the belief in colonics came from the Egyptians who assumed everything that putrified was dangerous (hence the removal of stomach and intestines for mummification purposes) you should also know that they believed the brain to be unimportant and therefore did not preserve it in the same practice.

Perforation of your intestine and infection from less than sterile procedures are certainly a real danger and should be considered...clearly you and your friend responded to some such problem. And finally, from what I've read (and I too was considering colonics) the colonic tubing really can't go much beyond 20-24 inches...your intestines run some 30 feet!
