The article that you linked is full of inaccuracies and misconceptions. Most colonic irrigation equipment is approved by the FDA and listed as a Class II medical device...and is recognized as a legitimate means of healthcare. Although there have been 2 or 3 incidence of injury or death resulting from colonics, these cases involved a particular type of colonic device that was being used without the monitoring by a trained technician...the individuals punctured their colons when inserting the rectal tube themselves. I am aware of no deaths resulting from electrolyte depletion that resulted from a colonic. Furthermore, the misleading statements linking colon hydrotherapy with sexual gratification is just a means of degrading this profession and scaring potential clients or those who are inquisitive about the procedure. This is no different than linking massage therapists with prostitution...an inappropriate and misleading connection that is designed to discourage and scare the public.
