None of the texts I've read that talk about 2012 really get very specific about how the world will be different besides the general things I've already mentioned.
I'm pretty sure it's not gonna be like flicking a light switch one night and the next morning everyone's gonna be holding hands singing Kumbaya. 2012 may just mark a 'turning of the tide' to quote Gandalf. Maybe it'll be something like D-Day in WWII or maybe we're already that far along and this election is the D-Day. Many of the ideas I've read involve reaching a 'critical mass' of enlightened people. One number quoted was 160,000. Supposedly after that, everyone else picks it up like a clothing fad or something. (slowly or quickly? i have no idea)

As for questions about whether the govt. will fall apart, whether the economic system will change, if weather and climate will intensify, etc....I'd count on some changes everywhere but I'd feel like a phoney speculating about details. Noone knows. I'd try not to worry about what's gonna happen too far in the future. We just gotta do our best today, do what we know is right for the planet and for each other.
