Personally, I believe that different parts of the bible can mean different things (to a degree).
It depends upon what God intended for the one reading at the time.
I mean the info for everyone, of course, not necessarily the historical documentation parts.
For example, one of the things mentioned is that we're not to change one jot or tittle. I believe that means punctuation. In the translation of the bible (into english, anyway), man has inserted commas, colons, semi-colons, italics, etc.
However, when you think about it, BOTH of the following NON-biblical sentences CAN and ARE interpreted two totally different ways DUE TO THE PUNCTUATION:
Woman, without her man, would be lost.
Woman: without her, man would be lost.
See what I mean?
When I think of certain "fellow christians" who think they will be "first in line" to see God, I think of the scripture you mentioned. Of course, I'm being unfair...that does come to mind, though, when their arrogance shows through. I'm sure that's not what that phrase is for, but then again...who knows?
