PAINT LADY: INFO ON ATKINS DIET & INFLAMMATION AS SOURCE OF HEART DISEASE

Hi Lisa,

I agree with you about the water 'cure'...sufficient water is essential to good health, but other things ie. diet, exercise, stress, etc. must also be taken into account. Good health is about one's whole lifestyle.

Thought you might be interested in the following two articles...I know you are big on the Atkins diet, and the second one discusses inflammation as a bigger marker for heart disease than cholesterol levels. The complete articles are located at the links. ; )

BEEF - BUT NO CAKE
The Atkins diet has made news again with study results
showing how the high-protein diet can not only be an
effective way to lose weight, but may also be healthier for
your heart than the American Heart Association Step-1 low-fat
diet. When these surprising results were announced at this
week's AHA annual convention it created a sensation among
nutritionists and the medical media. We'll tell you about
some of the more extreme reactions, and take a closer look at
how this study casts a new light on the way certain foods may
enhance our cardiovascular health.

BURST OF INFLAMMATION
Is there a better marker for heart attack risk than LDL
cholesterol? It's hard to imagine the medical mainstream even
thinking that thought. But that's the conclusion of a study
that drew enormous attention this week with the news that a
marker for inflammation called C-reactive protein (CRP) was
shown to be more reliable than LDL for predicting risk of
heart attack and other adverse cardiovascular events. But
with a little further digging it suddenly becomes obvious why
this new marker has been embraced. We'll give you all the
details and assess the future for both CRP and LDL.
