Re: hydrocortisone/cortisol
Meg
Have you had a 24 hour saliva test to find your cortisol levels? My first saliva test I was low a.m., normal, noon, high p.m. high midnight. I didn't sleep for 15 years, lol. Really, I would be tired and wired. I was on cortef for 10 months, working up to 30 mg daily, then got high cortisol symptoms. Weaned down slowly from the cortef and retested my adrenals. Now my cortisol rythym is HIGH all 4 times of the day, and I mean really high. Dr. put me on Seriphos, 800 mg at night to try and bring my night time level down and hopefully the daytime levels will follow suit. I just got my first stretch mark today, a great big one down the centre of my stomach. Bummer. That's one of the symptoms of high cortisol and I hope they go away when my cortisol comes down. I haven't been tested for hypopit yet. I'm going to ask for that test in Nov when I see the Dr.
It took me 3 years to of tinkering with adrenals and thyroid before my energy level came up. I am celiac, too, just diagnosed and have been on the no gluten diet for 4 weeks now. Dr. thinks the celiac is stopping the thyroid meds from being absorbed. And also, if you have high or low cortisol, your T3 is not being absorbed by the receptors. you need cortisol for the conversion if you are low and high cortisol blocks the conversion. It's tricky for sure!
I am no longer on the cortef and I had to stop taking my compound progesterone because I was converting that to cortisol also. I also have low testosterone and am on replacement for that. They all play together those hormones!
I do feel much better on straight T3, I'm at 100 mg daily 25X4
