It's great, see it if you can. A mountaineer "cuts the rope" on his partner to save himself. "protocol" in the mountaineering community. His only choice, and he made that decision only after an heroic attempt to save his partner. Well, guess what? Partner lived. Rope-cutter, castigated for years for making a decision that others hope that they will never have to make themselves. Partner never faulted him for it, has publicly stated many times that he would have done the same thing himself.

And, you're right, of course. Only the strong survive.

But what fun if there's nobody to hang out with?
