Re: Suggestion for new "Self Sufficiency" or "Survivalist" forum
It may be difficult for many people to find an isolated place to escape to and especially difficult to be able to head to the hills on foot and survive, but it would be a good idea to be prepared to do both.
I am still far short of all the things I need - ZoeB had a great list to have if you have a place you think you may not have to run from. I do have a rough plan in place though.
First of all, (Plan A) I have two places where I have about 3 months of food stored. One is in a very small East Texas town at a home I have just rented that is at the dead end of a narrow county road. There are three fishing ponds on the propery and it abuts the Corps of Engineers land that leads to the shores of Cooper Lake (which you can see over the trees from my back yard).
The second place (Plan B) is a friend's place even more isolated, high in the Texas Hill Country between San Antonio and Mexico where I have the aforementioned food and other supplies, there is a water well, deer abound, and most of the nearby land is in very large tracts owned by very independent minded neightbors who are armed to the teeth.
I think that a good additional plan (Plan C) would be to scope out in advance one or more even more isolated places deep in the woods or hills where you stash a cache of supplies (food, water, first aid, ammo, etc.) so that you can grab the essentials and backback and hightail it to if necessary.
Not sure about moderators for the suggested group, but you and Trapper both come to mind - perhaps ZoeB too. Myself, I have enough on my plate and feel that others are far more knowledgeable and qualified - but I surely would like to contribute and learn from others.
