Re: Suggestion for new "Self Sufficiency" or "Survivalist" forum

You are right, Trapper. I know I can not do
everything and I am away from family at this
time so have created family with my neighbors.

My one neighbor taught me how to build a smoke
house and how to smoke deer. We are fortunate
to have a lot of wild animals where we are that
we could eat well. I have even told the rancher
on the other side of me that if the heck hits the
fan, I want to buy one of her Angus. We'd smoke it,
we'd solar cook or fry it, and we'd share what skills
we have with our neighbors. We can block off our road
and protect ourselves.

The hardest thing to do was to bring up the subject.
What worked for me was sort of a game, "Lets Suppose...".
The event which precipitated my own bringing up the issue
was when the banks first began having their challenges,
and there was talk of Martial Law being enacted. So, after
a round or two of "Lets Suppose", people began to understand
and include that scenario in one of many, like what would YOU
do after a major hurricane. The imagining of it did not match
the reality so preparation is MORE important.

Stress was very difficult. I used herbs and EMERG-C to give
me an edge. I actually had a migraine one day which is like
the first in a couple of years maybe. All of the diversions
I thought I would indulge in were not comforting. I made myself
a hot water bottle and just held it and meditated. It was a far
fetch but in a small way felt like a hot tub of water to me,
which was comforting.

I feel like I have been preparing since Hurricane Katrina, still,
I feel there is still so much I can do to help myself and those
I bond with.

One thing, I am inspired to give more useful gifts for
the holidays. Something like this~~

or this~~

My number one thing I liked when the power went out was
the 24-7 news on the battery television. The huge disappointment
though is come January they will no longer work because they
are analog and not digital.

I'd like to learn to trap. I have watched Les Stroud
on Survivorman make some traps. If I were really hungry
I imagine I'd be willing to trap something to eat.

Ideally, I would rather trade a massage for my supper~!

blessings,
Zoe
