Wow, I hope to be as lucky as you. That dog I mentioned in the above post was adopted, and not by me. I missed my chance since I was out of town at the time. I called on one this morning, in Ontario, no less, I was willing to make the drive, but already they had another serious adopter, and I don't think she was on Petfinder for more than a day. It's unbelievable how fast the type of dog I want goes. I think it will be all luck and timing, but I'm just in a hurry, I guess, to find her very soon because my workload has slowed down and will be slower for the next couple of weeks to couple of months, and it's the perfect opportunity to spend a lot of time working with a new dog.

That first dog we looked at, the Jack Russel/Bichon mix who needed to lose about 1/3 of her body weight may or may not still be available, last I heard from her foster mom, she wanted to take her time finding the right family and she was afraid I had too many doubts. Had I not expressed them, she would have adopted that dog to us in a heartbeat, and I'm regretting we didn't take her on the spot. I still think ideally we need a trial period with her, but I think we could have fudged that we were 100% certain about her on the likely chance that after a couple weeks we'd fall in love, and if we didn't, I'm sure they would have taken her back, though we'd lose our deposit and no doubt would get blacklisted by that particular group. I think the foster mom is still on vacation, and she's probably been flooded with applications in the meantime, so I doubt it's still possible, but I'm wondering if I should make one more attempt at that one. I just don't know if I can promise her 100% that it's a perfect fit and there's no chance I'd be returning her. My husband says she's not the one, but he does not really want a dog and I kind of suspect he will say that about almost any dog and will warm up to a good dog eventually. I think we just were looking for or expecting similar traits to my last dog, which was the extent of my personal experience with them, and obviously that's unrealistic. The main thing with that dog was the wire coat and stinky/greasy thing, but I think I could used to a wiry hair texture if I could get her smelling better and not leaving oily stinky spots on the furniture and rugs. I honestly have no idea if that was just a bathing/grooming issue or is a natural trait for her, or even a health issue, possibly because of her weight. Tweet
