Re: Ready to Adopt a Dog - Petfinder Addiction, Questions
I have not seen any individual owners on Petfinder looking to relocate dogs, it looks like they are all rescue organizations and humane societies, so it may be that you'd have to have that particular non-profit status to use it. There are always adoption fees. Check out Petfinder.com. What you could do is surrender them to a local rescue organization that fosters them with people who will take care of them until they are adopted. If you do a Petfinder search with your zip code, it will bring up animals who are placed with particular rescue organizations in order of how close they are to your location, and you can click on their links to take you to websites with their contact information, etc.
It's wonderful that you are caring for these abandoned dogs! That is a lot of work, though, for one person, with that many, and these rescue organizations are pretty good at finding homes for them. They will be fostered indefinitely if they can't, I have never run across one that puts animals down just because it's taking too long to adopt. At most they might change foster homes a few times. Believe me, based on what I've experienced so far, those fosters and the organizations are VERY particular about who they will adopt to, you get the 3rd degree with some of them. I'm sure your dogs would be well looked after and placed in loving homes.
Good luck!
