Re: To Tom

Hello Bruce,

Thanks for the reference. I may have to order the book. There is a lot of information and references presented and I am making sure I understand the material before asking questions. Stick with me for awhile and I may be able to get to the point where I can discuss it with you.

I am still confused why your numbers and my numbers don't match.

I have some of your 5% sodium chlorite solution. Using it, I mix this up:

1.25 ml 5% sodium chlorite, add
1.25 ml lemon juice, wait 3 minutes, then add
200 ml water.

The results I get are a 200 ml solution with around 4 PPM (I am using test strips and the edges match the 5 PPM, but the center matches the 3 PPM. I am guessing that reading is 4 PPM) of available free ClO2.

While not exactly the same, this is very close to a 0.3 ml 28% activated solution. You indicate that it should treat 10 liters at 1 PPM, but I am finding that what I am mixing up will only treat 800 ml at 1 PPM.

What am I doing wrong?

Perhaps you could mix a similar batch and check out my results.

Tom
