I think it is a really interesting alternative, but as a re-formed 20 year smoker, I think the best thing you can do for yourself is just quit. It's more than just a health issue. If you can rid yourself of the habit and the need to be holding onto a "cigarette", it will do wonders for your self esteem.
I won't lie to you, I still get the craving. I even smoked a cigarette a few months back, just for old time sake. It nearly made me vomit.
Quitting is HARD... It took me many attempts over many years, but once you have licked the habit for you, you have no idea how proud you will be of yourself and how disgusted you will eventually become by all things smoke related.
