Re: In the same boat

Hi Monique,

I can totally relate to what you are saying. I started having migraines at 12 years of ago (now 42). And so I was raised to be the "sickly" kid. I have never felt normal or like other people. There is so much in my life I couldn't do, or haven't done, cause it would cause me to have a headache.

I do know that what we say to ourselves is very important, consciously and subconsciously. Whilst your avatar is very amusing and probably sums out how you are feeling right now, I don't think it's a good idea to attach that label to yourself. I know that this seems like such a small thing, but it is all the little messages we send ourselves that add up.

Another thing that I have done is to create a visual collage of "healthy". Like you I don't know what healthy would look like for me. Even though I have had times in my life when I was physically in shape and looking pretty healthy on the outside, I was still plagued with migraines and couldn't exert myself too much for fear of an attack.

So I collected pictures from the internet and magazines that depicted what healthy would look like for me. A woman bounding through the waves at the beach, another working out at the gym. I have them on my vision board along with words like "perfect health" & "vibrant energy". Use whatever words and pictures depict your idea of healthy for yourself. And look at them often.

And I know what you mean about not believing the words you say in affirmations, but keep saying them anyway. It's the old "fake it till you make it". Pretend you do mean them. Pretend you are an actor and you are trying to convince someone else. Actually convincing someone else is always a good one. Ask yourself how you would advise someone else, if they had come to you with this problem. Then show yourself the compassion and understanding that you would give to another.

I know it's tough, but I believe that there is light at the end of the tunnel for both of us. There have been many times in my life when I have just wanted it to be over. But I believe that we go through these things for a reason. There is a purpose to it. And I believe that we can make it through if we just support one another as well as ourselves.

Good luck to you.
