This sounds very hopeful, especially for alzheimer's disease. It certainly sounds worth persuing at least. I am always concerned about flippant statements like 'even 1000 times the RDI is not considered toxic' are used without anything to back them up. We have been using vitamin tablets regularly for 20 years and more, or more likely overusing, in very high doses. I have heard recent studies state that having more than 500mg of vitamin C can be toxic to the body, but they are sold in 1000mg tablets and taken more than once per day! The same goes for iron tablets which are given in super high doses of at least four times what I have read as toxic and the injections far exceed that again.
So just like those who say it's safe to take an aspirin a day to keep your blood thin and just be on the safe side to avoid heart attacks, I would be wary of taking more vitamins than are provided in natural foods. I understand that not everyone is prepared to eat the right foods and therefore must resort to such measures but I do think that it is a short cut to the right way to do things and no more.
