Re: Lowest yet... 10 mg
Hi Janey,
It sounds like you may have very low magnesium. I would pick some up at your first opportunity. Go for the citrate, aspartate, chelate or malate form. For long-term use, herbalcom.com has very inexpensive magnesium citrate in a powder form. Also, take taurine, 2-3 grams per day, to help magnesium absorption. Also, try an
Epsom Salt foot bath in case your body has any problems absorbing the mercury. That may be instant relief.
Have you picked up Andy's books yet? I don't know what your budget is, but it has a lot of good suggestions for supplements to alleviate many of your symptoms during chelation.
I wouldn't necessarily recommend the above product unless you were already using large amounts of acetyl-carnitine and doing well with it. You can get something like ALA from Twinlabs at 50 mg and split it into 4 or 5 parts. Recapsuling is a minor pain, but you get used to it. DMSA can help as well to speed up chelation, though it is more expensive and doesn't cross the blood-brain barrier like ALA.
I have yet to personally hear of bad reactions to ALA per se, like there is with DMSA, but there can definitely be bad reactions to chelating too fast. If you feel fragile, as you say, then definitely do not start with higher than 10 mg, and stick closely to a 3 hour or less schedule.
Without pushing your body too hard, it is also good to look for opportunities to sweat. While there is always talk of saunas,
Epsom Salt baths, and so forth, during the summer it is easy to find opportunities to sweat. I personally always feel better right after a summer hot spell. If you don't sweat much now, then taking large amounts of magnesium may help.
