Re: Tsk, tsk, tsk...
I read you frequently and I have a great deal of respect for you, so having to debate an issue with you is not a pleasant task, although I'm sure we are both reasonable enough to understand we can not agree on every subject every time.
On this one I have to firmly disagree with you. You do not know me or anything about me. I am hardly an extremist of any sort, I do not require that everything to which children be exposed be Christian nor do I expect to have the whole world converted at gun point, nor would I like every form of fantasy wiped from the earth. That is ludicrous and unnecessary. Therefore I find your charge of narrow mindedness on my part for seeing a danger that you do not, rather offensive and beneath a person of your unique insights. Your further accusation that anyone seeing a problem with the subject in question is lacking in humor or the ability to 'smell the roses', is in itself rather amusing, and it smacks as a slight of the ole' 'ad hominem'. If I may add, hat's a very poor way sir of combatting the message.
You have failed to directly address any of the reasons why this film is of concern to me and to probably the few numbers of people who actually see the real harm beside it. I will not attempt to convince you nor do I frankly care if you see it my way, but I will offer you a more detailed reason of why I see this as pervasive a danger as the many other things that you see around you to which you do indeed see and voice your stance.
Film makers have increasingly reduced the number of good wholesome films for children over the years, so it is understandable that many parents are thrilled at the prospect of sosmething of cinematographical quality, void of bad language or nudity. What they are not readily perceiving is the gradual subliminal messages that to engage in the occult, or syncretism, is ok as long as you sprinkle it with a good dose of Christian sounding themes. This is not too different at all from the attempts made by the government, the pharmaceutitcal companies, schools, drug stores, ad nauseum, to vaccinate our children as it will do much good in preventing disease. Then a couple of party poopers like you and I pop up and point out that the hidden mercury, aluminum, bacteria and viruses in each dose is a hidden poison we don't want in our children at any cost. But continue to get consistent comebacks that tell us of the good that vaccines can do in preventing disease and deathly oubreaks. It is worth it, they tell us, the very small damage that those things can cause. The conventional wisdom then calls parents trying to withold their children from vaccines; abusers, narrow minded murderers who want to keep their young from all established good. It is then also useless to point out to them that vaccines do very little in terms of preventing disease and so on and so forth. You know this argument as well as I or better.
It is exactly, identical, the very same with this issue. The good that this film can do is negligible when you consider the well planned occult messages included in order to desensitize us to occultism. To further add insult to injury, and my greatest 'beef', is this film was targeted to Christian audiences, and many churches, more than I care to think, happily advertised and promoted it as a "christian movie". Well sir it is precisely this lack of discernment amongst our pastors and youth leaders that is so distressing. It is important to mention at this point that if this film truly were, as touted, a Christian movie, then hoardes would be coming to Christ as a result, but that of course never happens, much like our vaccine situation.
In summarizing, it is the clear representation of this material as christian by christians themselves and by the marketing strategists that makes ths dangerous from a truly Christian perspective. The message of Christ must never be adulterated with anything else, much less occultism and New Age. If you personallly do not see the dangers inherent in syncretism, then fine, I'm not the one to whom you will answer. But never ever has God been pleased when a people mixed his truth with lies. In simpler Biblical terms it was called mixing the leaven of the Pharisees. For my part I have less of a problem with Harry Potter, in the sense that it has never pretended to pass off as Christian or any other such thing.
Occultism is at the root of our world dominance, in our politicians' moves and everywhere we look. What a great idea to introduce it in innocent packaging into our churches and homes. What a great way to condition believers into accepting Trojan horses gradually, stealthily.
My response has gone on longer than I intended, and yet I doubt if I have said anything to convince you. However, I do hope that you at least consider some of what I've said and at least refrain from calling someone pointing out this often neglected issue, humorless and lacking in joy of life. Contrary to how it may appear, this is not a superficial observation, but one which has taken hours of research and dedicated study by some.
Every once in a while Tony, there may have been something you missed along a path, and just as you are a gift at pointing out skipped steps for others, sometimes you may want to take notice of someone elses' views where you do not think you need to look.
May you cotinue to have a fine day!
