Molly-Interesting. Life is all important to me because I DO believe in a hereafter! Ah ha! when I look at the incredibly intricacy and fullness of creation, birds, bees and flowers and the interaction and depth of the 'leela' or dance of creation I feel a part of That. It's a gift to feel connected to All That Is. Eternity is a wonderful thing! It's joyful.

But I can also understand why my father was an agnostic. He came through the depression, world war two, the loss of his first wife and the Vietnam war which affected him greatly because he had an intimate part in that and served in Nam. It divided him because he believed in America and was a proud patriot. But the war did him in. He retired and left the country and returned one time for his college reunion. The split in his consciousness was reflected in the way he chose to check out. He had a stroke and the division in his mind was reflected in the half-of-a-man he became afterwards. He was half in the world and half out.

To me Karma is a momentum thing. It builds upon itself. You accumulate Karma as you go and can change it like finger paints too. Kind of like a situation that always bothers you and you realize you have a choice to change your response to the annoyance. So you go into what I call 'scramble' mode. You take a bothersome situation and look at it as if its a finger painting and then scramble it in the mind. That shifts the energy. We can do that with our past emotions and beliefs too. It does take some creativity though and a desire to change habits or patterns. This requires some self initiative and awareness. Its about changing our own reactions to things. Because that is the main thing we have in our control. Our own upsettness. Our own guilt. Our own fears etc.

The idea that God is a punisher is a control mechanism by religion that decided to become the middle man for some weird sort of reversed god. This is how it works. The faithful file into the church. The guy in the robes presiding at the pulpit speaks to the herd in the pews and tells them "its your fault". You are the ones who are responsible for "the greatest crime that ever occurred". He spins around and points to the bleeding bearded man dangling from the cross behind him and tells the conditioned mass that THEY have murdered this man. "You did this". "You are sinners". And now he screams "He died for you! You no good suckers!". And so the brain washing continues and that is how we get a god that punishes. So that is religion. It's about as phony as it gets. But it's very different from spirituality which is free of guilt and shame and embraces wholeness and health. It is not focussed on fear, death or punishment.

My 'poor' friend is making a choice. She is only as poor as she wants to be. I was able to offer a few suggestions to her and she said I was about one of the only people she felt connected too. So maybe something will change for the better? I certainly hope so. She has so much to offer and has done many good things. She is at a crossroads and I am there if she needs me.
