Hello,
I'm a 17 year old male who has had moderate to severe Acne for about the last 3-4 years now. My family is struggling financially at the moment, so we can't really see a dermatologist (not to mention, I have no health insurance). However, things aren't as bad as they seem. My father is a doctor (a Neurologist/Neuropthalmologist), and while his expertise in Acne and skin care is limited, he does read many books and journals over every aspect of medicine, so he does know a fair amount. He's also able to prescribe medications for me (Clindamycin, Retin-a, etc), and I'm eternally thankful.
Anyway, the battle against my pimples is ongoing. But thats not really why I'm posting. You see, not only do I have about 3-4 pimles on my face usually, my skin has a terrible tendency to SCAR all the time! After every pimple just about! So i'm left with dark/purply marks on my face even after the zit is gone!
It is so embarrasing and frustrating, because few other people I know suffer from this problem like I do.
SOOOOO...I'm asking the people of this forum, male or female, adult or child, what is the best product to CONCEAL acne? My mother has tried different make-up she uses on me, and it works fairly well, but its also somewhat obvious I'm wearing make-up on close inspection. And it doesnt relaly cover very well.
Can anyone recommend a product that conceals pimples or scars well, without looking obvious??? I'm a guy here, so wearing make-up to school is somewhat...embarrasing..to say the least.
If ANYONE can make ANY recommendation to me about a good product to conceal Acne pimples or scars, I would be eternally grateful.

Gordon, I am sorry you are having such a difficult time wiht your skin. I don't know if this will help or not, but my favorite is a concealer by Clinique in a small tube. I'm sorry, but the name is worn off mine and I can't remember the name exactly, but if your Mom goes to the store and asks for a small tube concealer, they will know what it is. It comes in three shades and lasts a long time. Also at the drugstore look for Physician's Formula concealer in a stick or little pot that is green( yes, green!), or yellow. You put this color "neutralizer" on under the skin colored concealer. It works really well for those red or purple discolorations.
You may also want to try a light dusting of powder over these in your skin tone to help the concealer last longer.

I think I know which product you mean. If its the same one I'm thinking about, its a concealer specifically designed for covering Acne and Acne blemishes called Clinique Acne Solutions Concealing Cream. I was actually thinking of trying that, as it was made by a major company and SPECIFICALLY designed to hide acne. That's something very few other products have offered.
Anyway, since make-up is not my forte, I'm going to have to take your advice (and my mother's, of course ;) ) and give it a shot. Ugh...I just wish it would all just go away! :(

If this helps- I came across this concealer which comes as a lipstic/pencil which is said to also aid Acne cure- its from he "clear and clean" or "clean and clear" (whatever the name is) range of products. I saw it in Harris Teeter but should be avaibale anywhere where they keep these products. I have never tried though.- Re: Concealing acne? Please help!! #163371

Unfortunately though, I've tried the "Clean and Clear" concealer stick on several occasions in the past. Its not a bad item at all, its just not really right for my skin type or my problem. I think its intended for the occasional, isolated pimple, to reduce redness.
My problem is much larger. I have several pimples and many scars I'm trying to conceal, and Clean and Clear is just too "caky" on my face to cover my skin clearly. :(- Re: Concealing acne? Please help!! caf

I searched long for the right make up to help conceal my acne- I have been using all Laura Mercier cosmetics - she makes something called secret camouflouge- its awesome - mac actually makes some good concealers too. Laura Mercier had adult Acne so she kept that in mind when developing her products- I LOVE THEM. when the girl did my make up I almost cried it covered so well- moisturizing your face first may help the concealer blend with your skin better- so you can't see it as much- its all about finding the right color that matches your skin-if it does you shouldn't be able to tell at all that you have make up on- also check the Candida Forum s and Bowel Cleanse Forum s- Acne is caused but something going on internally- it took me a long time to figure it out- I have Acne because I have candida - i am treating the candida nad my acne is clearing - good luck!!!!!!

why don't you get rid of your Acne forever, instead of destroying your heath with potentially harmfull medications, and ignoring the wornings of your own body!
here is very simple recipe:
- Enema every days or several times a day (adding probiotics to enema wter is of great help)
- Diet as prescribed on CureZone web site (avoid bad foods )
- parasites cleanse as prescribed by Hulda Clark
- after few weeks of better diet and colon cleansing with probiotics, herbs and enemas, start flushing your liver ...

This is a reply to # 9,443Believe me, I've tried just about everything there is to try.
I'm currently on 3 (yes, 3) prescriptions, including Clindamycin (topical), Tretinoin (topical), as well as 2 oral medications i cant think of, and just about every single face wash and over the counter "wonder drug" known to man.
To be honest, its really not that my Acne that is so bad. I've seen people with much, much worse. Literally dozens of pimples on their face at a time. I'm not as bad...about 2-3 usually at a time..3-4 on a bad day. And they usually arent very large or cystic.
My problem is my damn scars! Even if I don't have any blemishes on my face that day (yes, it does happen), the scars still torment me! And aside from corrective surgery (which my family can't afford right now), I just have to try and disguise them.
SO the concealer isnt so much for the actual pimples, but for the scars.- Re: Concealing acne? Please help!! Iris

I on't think you understood my message.
I am not talking about prescription drugs.
It sounds as if you have been brain washed by someone into believing that Prescription drugs could actualy cure something.
Prescription drugs DOES NOT cure anything!
Drugs can only eliminate symptoms, and Acne are not a diseasese, Acne are symptom of poor GI tract, Poor liver and por kidney function, all caused by poor lifestyle and poor dietarry choices.

Check out blemishbegone.com for info on "New Skin Oil" shich is supposed to remove scars. I ordered some, not for scars, but for extra help for treating acne. I can't say for sure yet if it works, but it is not too expensive, and they claim it can help remove scars within a few months.
Also, I remembered the Clinique product I use: Advanced Concealer.

This is a reply to # 9,454well try on natural oraganic cosmetic, if you like something to hide and also help in jane iredale make up, also try natural soap, like tea tre skin care soap found on health foods, and elicina cream works wonderfull, and eat well, try vegies not cook, and fruits, dont eat sugars nad cafeine and well look for raw food diet, or go to nauturopat.

Just want to pass on some info to you regarding my experience in treating acne, etc. I used all kinds of Antibiotics for years and ended up with all kinds of problems, internally, because of damage they did for years of use. I have since been trying to regain my health through nutrition, etc. - and it is working. However, the Antibiotics caused terrible side effects after many years. They destroy what they are supposed to destroy (the bad bacteria); however, they also destroy good bacteria (because they don't know the difference)which you need in your body to stay well. Possibly, if I had known over those years, I could have taken probiotics to counteract the destruction (or eat good yogurt which has the probiotics in). Over the years, I've tried many things and moreso after I got off Antibiotics about 6 yrs ago. Even when I was on antibiotics, I would still have breakouts, not as badly as when I didn't take them. Since I'm off, I've tried everything under the sun!!! It wasn't until I found Proactive that I found something that worked. I would encourage you to try it. personally, i wouldn't bother with the proactiv since it only made my problem worst, however everyone is different so i suppose what works for someone might not work for another. in regards to a concealer, i wouldn't know what to tell you since i'm still on a quest for the perfect one myself lol. you didnt specify what skin type you have (oily, dry, etc) so remember that what worked for someone else might not work for you since you probably have a different skin type. i've tried physicians formula that someone mentioned, with the green stick but i wasn't really a fan since you could tell that i had green spots underneath the concealer (sexy lol) also i had to use more concealer than usual just to hide the green spots and i hate having to wear this stuff in the first place let alone roll it on with a paint roller, but maybe i did it wrong? I've noticed that when i use cream concealers they make my skin very oily so i personally stay away from them because my skin is oily enough as it is without the extra help. also they tend to make my skin look caky. i prefer liquid concealers because they make my skin less oily. and remember to read the label, stay away from any ingredient that could be pore clogging as it could make your problem worst. i don't remember the exact ingredients that pose a threat but i think i faintly remember (correct me if i'm wrong) anything that says the word oil such as mineral oil is a no no. and go for products that say non-comedogenic or hypo-allergenic and all that fun stuff. hope this helped.- I have the same problem! #165217

Just wanted to let you know that I also get those dark purple scars after each pimple. From what I understand it is caused by excess melanin (skin pigment) which is a result of the zit being inflamed for a long period of time. You might try holding an ice cube on the pimple, this didn't make a difference for me, but we are all different.
I would highly advise you to take the advice of the others in this forum, and begin an internal cleansing program. Once you've stopped the acne, you'll stop the scars. Cleansing truely does work! I actually did clear up my Acne once, but then went back to eating all the "bad foods", got frustrated and stopped cleansing, and now i'm back where I started.

I started looking at this forum cuz for a very long time, seven years in fact, i had a very severe form of cystic Acne which left similar marks on my skin and found it very debilitating. Now my skin is clear, practically no scars, and i would like to help out were i can. One thing to remember is that what works for one person may not work for another, but here's what helped me. Basically from the experience of trying A LOT of creams and products, prescripted and non, I found the only way to battle the marks and pimples in general was to treat it internally. Its a bummer you can't go to a demeratlogist but simply look at your diet. The BEST food you can eat to help clear up those marks is............ soya beans. This is from my experience remember. A good diet in general REALLY helps with the skin's healing process, i can't stess that enough. Also chuck some extra vitamins and minerals in there. Take fish oil tablets that has omega three, evening primrose oil and vitamin c, lots of vitamin C.

This is a reply to # 9,429Hi Gordon! I feel for you, I was in the same situation. I was 12 when I first got bad breakouts on my chin. I tried everything to cover them up. I just made them worse by clogging up pores, even if it said Dermatologist tested, or "non-clogging". I am now 28, and I've been using proactive for about 8 years. I know it's expensive, but I found a way around some of the expense through experimenation. St. Ives Makes an apricot facial scrub for Acne Prone skin. It works just as well as the proactive scrubber, and I skip the toner, that doesn't help in my case. I bought just the Repairing Lotion from the website, and I have been using the same bottle for over 2 years. It doesn't take too much on your skin to work. I have it on my chin, and I use a very small amount Morning and night. It is even an expired bottle, and it still works. Try the St. Ives alone, and see if that works, first. It can be hard to come by, but look in the grocery store, or drug store, it's cheap, and effective. Good luck! Hope this helps.
