My boyfriend and I have been together and faithful for almost 3 years now. Early on, I noticed a couple of wart-like things on his penis. I though they were just warts/moles, because everyone on his mom's side seems to have them somewhere or other, so I thought he had the bad luck to have them on his penis.
Eventually, they started to multiply. I mentioned my concern to him, and he didn't seem to think anything of it. Of course, he didn't like me looking at them. Currently he has 14 of them! So I looked up pictures of genital warts on the internet, to show him what it could lead to if he left it untreated. The pictures really freaked him out and he made an appointment right away.
P.S. If you are a male and think you have this, you need to see a Urologist, NOT a dermatologist.
Today was his appointment, and he has an STD! HPV-genital wart virus :( He is getting them burned off. Today is also his 21st birthday, so I feel pretty bad for him because what a lousy day this is. But I feel really weird. I don't have any warts anywhere at all, so that is good. Hopefully I have the type of immune system that is immune to this. He had started getting them before I came along, but I called my doctor anyway, to ask about myself. I was told that my papsmears would show HPV, but my papsmears always turn out good. Also, I have had partners before this relationship, so last year I had STD tests done just for piece of mind and everything was A.O.K. there too. I am greatly relieved that I did not do this to him, but the same time I feel awkward because of how/who he got this from.
I am just looking for any advice for others in the same shoes, or others who have the virus. Any information on personal experiences with this would be appreciated. Or anyone who can relate. I've been lucky so far, but I don't want this. And I am a really sensitive girl and I hate thinking about his previous partners and how they are affecting our/my life.
All I can say to everyone is... If you ever see the slightest abnormal thing "down there" Do not hesitate! Go to the doctor. Because chances are that it will not go away, but instead will multiply. And it's not pretty. Just look up pics on the internet.
