Sorry, I have to disagree. There are people like myself, Onwards, and Anatomydoll who have had to deal with nasty chronic infections and autoimmune issues like lyme, h pylori, parasites, herpes, hpv, celiac...and the list goes on. No amount of meditation is going to get rid of these nasty bugs, and no amount of meditation is going to work if one continues to eat a nutrient deficient diet. Not to say that dealing with the mental component is not important, but like Seattle said, it is merely a piece of a whole puzzle.
I spent years ignoring my infections and "thinking myself well". I did yoga, went to reiki circles, meditation retreats, and counseling. Yes, it has done my mental state a world of good (especially on the days when I was in so much pain I just wanted someone to shoot me), but I didn't start seeing real progress until I started addressing my nutrient deficiencies, and clearing out some of the bugs.
I hate medication and always have. I never took synthetic pills. I think I had
Antibiotics maybe twice in my life (except of course the ones they slip into our conventional meat supply without us knowing). Never took birth control. Lived as an 80% raw vegan for many years. I still hate supplements and take the minimum amount, but sometimes they are necessary. Being on the right diet is absolutely imperative to healing.
The body naturally goes into fight or flight because it is the natural response to threat. Then we ask, what is that threat? Yes, mental issues and negative thought patterns do activate the sympathetic system, but so do those silent invaders.
I had an awesome childhood, and lived life to the fullest as an adult. I can count more happy times in my life than sad ones. Marie64 is another example of someone who's AF came from a silent invader- mercury poisoning.
So Craig, I believe that you need to understand that everyone is different, and you should not downgrade an approach that has seemingly worked so well for many. It's insulting to listen to you say that "it's all in our heads", parroting the words that many of us have heard doctor after doctor say. Don't assume that everyone's case is the same as yours.
Believe me, I wish I could meditate my lyme away but it just doesn't work that way. Not in the real world anyway. I keep a positive attitude, two feet on the ground, and I take care of myself with a good diet and mineral replacement program.
The new people are here for support and some guidance. We are all here stumbling along and trying to lend a helping hand to others. Bullying your way through with your opinions makes you no better than Natway telling people to go eat 30 bananas a day.
