I'm kind of confused about the whole theory that only HIV/AIDS and cancer patients are susceptible to candidiasis because from what I can tell, not all people with HIV appear to suffer from it, in fact some look physically very healthy. Why do you think this is?
The answer is pretty simple. HIV+ DOES NOT mean the person is infected with the HIV virus, which by the way does not collapse the immune system. HIV tests have over 65 known causes for false positives and the "confirmation" tests are less accurate than the initial tests.
wow, that's quite a statement.
Yep, and all easily verifiable with a little simple research especially from medical journals.
Can you explain it a little bit better??
I have posted on this numerous times in the past. Here are some of the posts:

Do you think there are a lot of people who are HIV+ who really don't have the HIV ??
Exactly. This is explained in detail in the posts from the above links. The biggest issue with antibody testing is serological cross reactivity. Although viral exposure with the immune system successfully fighting it off also generates antibodies. So a positive antibody test does not mean the person is infected.
I've only had sex with 2 people in my entire life, and am most definitely HIV negative.
You do not have to have sex to contract HIV, but that is a whole other issue.
I'm having serious problems with candidiasis.
Theory shot.
Not at all. Candida can overgrow in part due to immune suppression. There are numerous things that can lead to immune suppression such as stress, nutritional deficiencies, lack of flora, medications............ A person with AIDS does not necessarily have an infection, they have immune suppression.
You might want to go back and re-read a bit.
The theory was that only people who are HIV positive can have candida overgrowth.
I have had an HIV test more than once showing I'm negative.
I do not have HIV and am not HIV positive.
I am having serious problems with Candida.
So, yes. Theory disproven.
If you want to get picky is was a hypothesis, not a theory.
And HIV+ or HIV- means absolutely nothing. A positive test does not mean someone is infected and a negative test does not mean someone is HIV free.
I just got a negative HIV test back, and I was happy, because I dreaded thinking my immune suppression was from this virus starting to lower or ruin my T cells. I WAS happy until I read what you wrote. I get that people can get AIDS without being infected with HIV. That's a little different. I really don't appreciate you writing that even though I (or others) who've tested negative (more than once) do have HIV.
Are you suggesting our immune suppression, systemic fungal infection (candidiasis) and general sickness could actually be from HIV though we test negative?
No, that is not what I was suggesting at all. If you read my posts I CLEARLY stated that Candida overgrowth can occur for a number of reasons for immune suppression.
By the way HIV dies not cause sufficient immune suppression to cause any disease in people. This is because HIV only drops CD4 cells, but there are other immune cells that operate independently of the CD4s supporting the immune system in the absence of CD4s. This is why people with zero or near zero CD4 counts can be walking around without any active diseases.
I guess you're not comprehending what I'm saying.
I do not have HIV. I do not have AIDS either.
I never claimed you did or suspected you did.
I don't think you understood my enquiry. I too have candidiasis due to the destruction of my gut flora having taken years of antibiotics. What I wanted to know, was why some people who have tested positive for HIV, do not appear to suffer from candidiasis as we do, despite them being supposedly immuno-compromised.
You answered a lot of your own question just now. People who test HIV positive are put on an a lot of immune suppressing drugs including antibiotics. The primary reason for Candida overgrowth is the use of antibiotics, which creates an alkaline terrain in the areas the Candida is found and that the Candida thrives in. The areas of the body where Candida is normally found are naturally acidic from the flora to keep Candida and pathogens under control. Killing the flora reduces the acid formation leading to an alkaline state that turns on the Candida growth gene and allows the Candida to convert in to its damaging fungal state.
Another drug that HIV+ people are frequently given is AZT or its analogues. Problem is that this drug is EXTREMELY immunosuppressive and in fact is one of the leading causes of AIDS. This sis because the drug destroys the bone marrow leading to a complete collapse of the immune system. The resulting opportunistic infections and the drop in CD4s due to the bone marrow destruction lead to the AIDS diagnosis.
So the use of pharmaceutical drugs in HIV+ individuals is a major reason for incidences of Candida overgrowth in these individuals.
