The most effective way to cleanse the liver is with the digestive bitters we have been talking about. When these bitter tasting herbs hit the back of the tongue they will stimulate the bitter receptors on the tongue. This in turn stimulates the vagus nerve causing the liver to flush. You only need to taste it for bitters to work, so I recommend half a dropper full with meals. Drink plenty of water throughout the day when using bitters to help flush the toxins.
B vitamins are also extremely important for helping the liver to do its job. You can get these from foods like nutritional yeast, rice bran, oat bran, or seaweeds or you can use supplements.
Are these Swedish Bitters? Where can i get from? I'm in the uk. Is there a particular brand that's recommended?
All bitters will work since it is the bitterness that gives them their properties. But Swedish Bitters do contain harsh stimulant laxatives, so stick to to very small doses.
I looked up the ingredients of the Intramax. There is no way I would take it myself. In my opinion whoever designed it had no idea what they were doing. They combined things that just are not compatible such as tannin sources that will bind the other herbs, IP6 that will bind the minerals, enzymes that will digest the fibers raising the sugar content, herbs that will kill the flora bacteria. Then they have a trace mineral complex that contains toxic minerals like nickel, and zeolites, which are aluminum silicates. On top of that they put it in a liquid base, which rapidly breaks down vitamins and herbal compounds from increased oxidation. They also list wormwoods several times, which is neurotoxic, which is not good for a daily basis. I don't recommend DHEA either since it can screw with the hormones. And there is a lot of sugar in it. It is like they just wanted to add as many ingredients as possible with no consideration of safety or interaction.
You are better off with the bitters and some liver support like turmeric, schisandra, or milk thistle seed.
I like to take a product called Seredyn occassionly for anxiety, you're probably going to shoot that down in flames too lol. It is herbs, high niacinamide, and mag taurinate, but i find it works a treat. I only take on a as needed basis. I usually take only 2 capsules, but you can take up to 6 a day. It can work for up to 8 hours.
This is what I saw listed for ingredients: Kava Kava, 5-HTP, Valerian, GABA, and L-Theanine
I do like kava, recommend 5-HTP often as wella s GABA, and I like theanine (an amino acid derived from green tea). Not a big fan of valerian, but it is ok. It will have the opposite effect in about 5% of people.
I did find some non alcohol bitters. I don't have any alcohol at all. They are not very expensive are they?
No, they are not expensive. The run around $6 to $12.
Would lemon not work?
No, lemons are sour, not bitter.
No Kava Kava in Seredyn, unless they have changed the formula recently.
Sorry, you are right. I went back and read the link I found under the name. They were listing ingredients that should be looked for in products for anxeity and calming, not what is in Seredyn. So I found a list of ingredients:
Active ingredients: Suntheanine, Passion Flower and Valerian Root .
Nutrients: Niacinamide and Magnesium Taurinate.
Good news is that I still have no problem with the ingredients except again for valerian, which is not really bad. I just don't like the smell of valerian, and like I pointed out some people have an opposite reaction. I do like kava better than valerian.
Yeah the trick is to find something that CALMS THE NERVES without putting you to sleep!
Valarian does nothing for me.
I have tried many 'anxiety' tonics and have found nothing that only calms the nerves. Every one I've tried just makes me want to take a nap!
Hopefully when my adrenals are healed the anxiety will go away.
You got the right idea. The adrenal glands form our anti-stress hormones when they are working properly to keep us on an even keel.
The best way to build up the adrenals is with natural vitamin C, pantothenic acid, and adaptogenic herbs.
For vitamin C I like papaya, watercress, berries, and kiwis for food sources. Herbal sources include amla, acerola cherry, rosehips, and nettle leaf.
For pantothenic acid the best source is bee pollen. Nutritional yeast, rice bran, oat bran, nettle leaf and seaweeds are also good choices.
Some of the best adaptogenic herbs include schisandra berry, licorice root, astragalus, Siberian ginseng, jiaogulan, and ashwagandha. Nettle leaf and amla berry are also excellent for the adrenals.
Try to avoid stress as much as possible. Also stay away from pharmaceutical steroids and all stimulants like caffeine and nicotine. Keep in mind that caffeine can be found in many hidden sources including aspirin, kola nut (bissy nut) and guarana (extremely high).
Most people using the adaptogens, vitamin C and pantothenic acid generally report improvement in as little as 3 days.
As for stress/anxiety, building the adrenals will help with these. Anxiety though can also be caused from a lactate build up. Nettle leaf is one of the best herbs to reduce lactate. Ashwagandha is also great for anxiety as it stimulates the GABA (gamma amino butyric acid) receptors in the brain causing a relaxation effect.
