I don't know anything about the saw palmetto am yet to try it. I tried the NAC and there is so much information on it's virtues for so many conditions, I don't know where to start. It did regulate my menstrual cycle and if that's the ONLY reason you're taking BCP's then I'd give the NAC a try on it's own without the BCPs. My cycle had been getting progressively shorter, no herbs or natural progesterone that I took would get me back to the 28 days, but unexpectedly, the NAC did, and in just one month. I have told several friends about it, many of them with menstrual problems and it has helped them tremendously, they don't want to go off it. Two who were told they were infertile, now have babies. One of these ladies had lupus and ran it by her naturopath first, who told her that there was nothing better she could have given her.
Further, one of the things that NAC does is to regulate insulin levels. So, if you don't want to go off the BCP's or try the NAC just yet, you might consider trying a diet that is low on insulin producing foods. Wheat, for example, I've read stimulates abnormal insulin levels in some people, particularly PCOS. I always thought I had a problem with wheat but it may infact just be the gluten in wheat. I say this because I have recently tried a yummy bread product from "Food for Life" called Ezekiel bread, it's made from sprouted grains and during the sprouting process the gluten is killed off.

I have been eating a lot of this lately and it doesn't make me drowsy or lazy or depressed as I am when I eat normal bread. Also, I am NOT putting on any weight, which I would if it were normal bread, because of the insulin effect. Besides this, for me, other foods which promote androgen activity in me are cheese and pig products. Because I am nursing a baby right now I am not taking NAC, but with switching to a gluten-free diet and eliminating cheese and ham, etc, my hair problems are greatly reduced. I'm going to try the liver flushing soon and I believe that's going to help bunches if indeed some food allergies are contributing to this condition in me. Well, perhaps not the answer to the SP and the NAC you wanted but hope it may be useful in some way.
