Jobs are scarce, and I know I should be grateful, but still, I feel like quitting.
I moved from CA to MD last summer, and by some miracle I found this job almost right away, which is pretty good for being out of state. There are many things I love about it...many of my inner requests were met:
1. It is a ½ hour drive, which is reasonable, and much of that drive is through beautiful scenery...
2. I have my own office, which is also pretty good for an underling
3. It is a small office with almost no stress
The down part is the pay is very low for me, (1/2 of what I made in CA) but it is meeting my needs.
Now the problem. My boss was unusally friendly when I started, and he is still easy to get along with. Unfortunately, his favorite employee has come back from over six months of maternity leave, and now he hardly ever talks to me, and he gives her the majority of the work. I am still busy, and I not afraid of getting laid off, but the favoritism, both professional and personal, is hard to ignore. I am 62 and she is very young and extremely good looking, so this might have something to do with it.
Parking is very tight here, and when I first started I was given a garage door opener and allowed to use the garage for six months. He had another car in there that was being stored for a friend, so I was the only one using it.
Then, he gave this other employee a garage opener. At first, he removed the other car, and we both parked in there, but then this week, he put it back...and since she arrives an hour before I do, I have been bumped out of the garage and left to scrounge for parking, which by the time I get there is almost impossible to find.
If they had just told me that she was going to be given first crack at the garage, I would be OK with it, sort of, but it was done is such an silent, underhanded way, that on top of the rest of the favoritism, I am really upset. I just drove up to the garage in the pouring rain Monday, and there was no space in there. There is no talk of us sharing it either, like every other day or something like that. We are both legal assistants, working at the same job at the same level.
How should I handle this?
