For me, growing up in a big family has been fun, being home schooled, and having great sisters has all been absolutely inspirational for my creative-domestic side. (You might say "spoiled")...!
I'm going to start by introducing my favorite base foods, (from which simply grand dishes can be made!)
Let me name a few of my staples-
White Rice
Potatoes
Eggs
Meat (Hamburger or Chicken usually)
Carrots
In Season Fruit - Apples right now!
I keep on hand -
Cornmeal
Rolled Oats
Olive Oil
Wheat Flour
Onions
Tomato Sauce (Home canned is the best!)
I hope you'll find some staple foods that will save you time and money - Encouragingly, they don't have to be the same as mine, but finding things you are comfortable working with will greatly improve your confidence and creativity! -Remember, nutrition is important, and fresh is important, but adding that little bit of love to a meal is a satisfying thing to a hungry man and growing children!
~Best Rice Recipe~
1 Quart Jar of Water (4 Cups)
1/2 Tsp Salt
1/2 Quart Jar of Dry Rice (2 Cups)
Heat the Water with Salt on Hi until it boils rapidly. Add Rice and stir in quickly, let boil again (shouldn't take more then 30 seconds) turn it down to Low. Cover with a lid and cook for about 15 minutes or until rice is soft and fluffy. Makes about 4 1/2 cups cooked Rice.
Some quick ideas -
You can serve this hot with butter and salt, or add curry, sage and pine nuts, cashews or blanched almonds to the whole batch and serve for dinner. For a quick breakfast add Cinnamon, milk and Stevia to cold or hot rice,
For egg fried rice, saute' half an onion in 3 TBS Olive Oil, (Other veggies may be used as well) add leftover cold rice and 4-6 eggs, stir fry until eggs are well done and serve hot with your favorite sauce.
This is Naomi Free, wishing you the top of the day!
