I hope to share my experience with others so that they may understand the emotional and physical output of fasting with fresh vegetables and fruit juices.
I have been fasting for 5 days so far. The first two days were not hard, but I did smell food wherever I went, and it made me want to eat. The last few days have been easier, and I have more energy and mind clarity than I did on the first two days. Especially after taking some enemas and releasing some garbage stuck in my intestines and slowing me down. Last night and the night before, I had some nightmares. I am sure it was because the toxins were being released into my body and affecting me in my sleep. The most important thing is elimination, as it can really make you uncomfortable with your fast throughout the entire thing if you have increased levels of toxicity from crap clogging up your body.
Yesterday I went to the gym and worked out pretty hard. Today I have to take it easy at the gym because my muscles got worked from this crazy "Body Works" substitute teacher. I swear, the subs have to prove they are better than the real teacher by kicking your ass. She kept calling us "soldiers"...so you can imagine the strenous workout that ensued. 75 pushups, 50 dips on the bench...crazy squats...my quads are on fire today. The class was an hour long, and all the girls (and one guy) in the class were groaning and moaning after 15 minutes. I actually heard myself say at one point "She is trying to kill us". Gosh, I am such a wimp... but I think some people agreed with me (silently). She just looked over and smiled that drill seargeant crazy grin and told us to count louder, by saying, "I can't hear you soldiers!"
The only part that sucks about fasting, is that you have to turn down offers for free meals left and right...as the universe tries to tempt you with friends asking you to dinner and the like. I swear it only happens to me while I'm fasting. It's like all of a sudden I'm popular, and even people who wouldn't take me anywhere...like my bosses...suddenly ask me to dinner so they can tell me how happy they are with my work(which also never happens). I actually started my fast one day later than I was supposed to because this exact event happened on the first day. They wanted to take me out for SUSHI (my favorite). Go figure.
Why am I doing this? Here are the reasons in order of importance:
1. Weight Loss
2. Cleansing and detoxification
3. Wieght Loss
4. (did I say wieght loss already?)
I have done this before and it has worked. I went on a ten day juice fast with fresh fruits and vegetables from the the juicer and felt awesome. After the 3 day hump, you lose the hunger. Then you start getting ambitious and try juicing anything that you can just to see what it tastes like. Mangoes are awesome. Juiced by themselves, they create a RICH smoothie that melts in your mouth. If you ever feel like breaking the fast with someothing you are not supposed to eat, like ice cream or chocolate or coffee, then just juice a mango or a strawberry/pineapple mix. You will thank yourself when you are finished.
A couple of months ago my father died. It sucked, so I ate chocolate for breakfast lunch and dinner for like two months. You can imagine the gain. I am a small woman, 5'4". My boyfriend came to see me two months after it happened and we took some pictures together (he goes to med school in another state) and I finally saw how bloated my face and body had become from all the sugar and garbage I was eating, and I mean anything...and I usually shop at the health food store...which as you all know, stocks the best in gourmet desserts. I have not seen him since then (almost two months now) and I will not look they way I did when I saw him last. We have a long distance relationship, and it's already tough enough without me gaining 25 lbs and looking fat when there are a million or more beautiful models in NYC that would love to go out with a gorgeous and fun med student studying to be a plastic surgeon.
I wieghed myself...and I had gained 25 lbs. since i had graduated college (only two years ago). I felt I looked good then, so here goes. I started five days ago (supposed to be six but you know what happened), and I will do this for another 12 days until I leave to go see him in NYC.
Sometimes you can't tell people that you are doing a fast, because they will immediately try to tell you not to and other crap because they do not understand, nor have read any of the internal benefits of fasting. Which are many. As you read the daily journal I can tell you what they are. Luckily I have no children and my roommate is a 52 year old psychologist who already had a juicer when I moved in. She looks like she's 35 and people think we are the same age sometimes. She sticks to a healthy semi-vegetarian diet and drinks juices all the time. That is a direct effect of this program, and I hope I look as good as she does when I am 52.
