It seems there are many who are outraged at GW's lack of response to those poor people trapped inside hospitals, stadiums, and their own homes. I do not think it was an accident. And this is just political mind self-gratification. Don't get me wrong I engage in it when lives aren't at stake. I look at the actions or lack of actions that people do or do not take. I think there are no accidents and then the hurricane can not be an accident either.
So if one views events people and things without huge emotional response, one has more clarity on the truly pervasiveness (in this case) "lack of action"...And if you are Outraged and raging and upset, May I ask "What are you doing about it?, what action are you taking?"
Oh certainly it is great to blog and "inform", but it is more powerful to take action. This is the only "good" purpose for anger-to get off the behind and do something about it! Get involved; the Red Cross is asking for volunteers-have any of those upset at the conditions and lack of action called and volunteered to fly down to New Orleans and help? By God, we need helpers. People of action.
This bleating into the wind, makes us sheep. Save your outrage unless you are ready to take action. If not, then your outrage is castrated, your purpose frustration, and has that helped this world or the other worlds? Has it helped on person in Louisiana get food...I saw on one forum the idea to send zappers-did anything come of it...?
Sending food, or getting yourself down there to clean up would do 300 percent more good than zappers...which some of the people may prefer not to use, since they may never understand something as alternative and esoteric as zappers. The idea may even scare them. Food and water they understand! Your being in the first line of aid, they understand.
We all could donate $10-25-100 dollars to the Red Cross..as many have...but this action will do little to quell outrage. Money doesn't fix outrage..I do know from church yesterday, many of the trained Red Cross volunteers are being "mobilized" to the areas of Houston and Louisiana, and many of the other projects locally-like feeding the homeless are left undermanned.
At church there was an outreach for sandwich servers at 12:15pm yesterday. A couple of us went down and made sandwiches and handed meals out. This is not at the level of first line defense, but it is taking up the slack for those volunteers that were providing this service before they left for the front line.
It is not that all the new agers are passive, some are practical. I've volunteered for the last 10 years on a regular basis. I see the good that can be done from getting off our asses and taking on something that seems impossible~ and is not.
You will never get paid a dime, but if you like the feeling; you will be hooked..It will release you from the futile frustration of beating your chest in outrage...But if outrage is the motivator-then I say "bring it on". Get outraged, go do something.
Many that have volunteered at a time and again don't get outraged, they get outreached-they extend compassion and they find out what they can do, and they take action! Period, they don't need outrage- they know they are not powerless to change things and they know the feeling of doing all you can, and sometimes still not "fully fixing" things.
I challenge all that are outraged to pick up the phone and find out what you can do locally to aid any project that is undermanned because those veteran volunteers are down in the damage zone. Or if they are not undermanned, but the project speaks to you...then get out and do something you will feel better- but for those who are truly livid-GET ON A PLANE- GO THERE. You outrage will be healed. Your sadness may not be.
Here is a site that will match your passions to the organizations that support your flavor...If even one of you volunteers somethign will shift in the paradigm!
