Dietician

Dieticians assist their clients via nutritional evaluation and modification. They take an in-depth look at the current diet, suggest changes, and track progress. The goal of making changes is to positively impact a patient’s health issues.  Dieticians may also be active in their industry by writing or speaking about the relationship between nutrition and acute and chronic health concerns.

This position requires a degree in the field of nutrition. Beyond that, each state has its own expectations. This would typically include extensive internships either during or after the university degree. A candidate may pursue specialized training to work with specific populations, such as cancer patients.

Shockwave Therapy Technician

Shockwave therapy technicians work in innovative environments with some of healthcare’s latest technology. Many patients turn to this type of therapy to avoid invasive surgeries. Instead, shockwave technicians provide non-invasive treatment with shockwave devices outside the body, on or near the skin. This treatment can be very effective for broken bones that do not heal properly, such as an oligotrophic nonunion.

Technicians work in hospitals, clinics, and increasingly in medical spas. Individuals need to be trained on the usage of their clinic’s specific device and may use it under the supervision of a physician.

Medical Billers and Coders

This administrative position is responsible for translating procedures, treatments, and any other medical terminology into standardized codes. The codes are necessary for billing and insurance purposes. Medical coders must understand not only code translation, but also have extensive knowledge of the insurance process. This job is found in hospitals, family practices, and even had remote work-from-home opportunities. 

Coders need a short degree, such as a diploma or associate’s degree. Beyond that, a coder should have training in the specifics of medical coding. This can be obtained online or in person. Achieving a Certified Professional Coder certificate is preferred by many.

Registered Nurse

Registered nurses provide a variety of patient care and supervise junior staff members. Nurses communicate treatment plans to their patients and perform physical examinations to evaluate any health concerns. In addition to administering care, nurses also provide emotional support to patients and family members. They work in many healthcare facilities, from hospitals to doctors’ offices to schools, and more.

Registered nurses require multiple years of training. The first step is obtaining a college degree in a related field. Beyond this, trainees must pass the NCLEX-RN exam and in-person internships. Specialized types of nursing require additional training.

Audiologist

Audiologists are experts in hearing loss and other hearing problems. They assess and diagnose their patients through a variety of examinations. They then create treatment plans to address any reasons for concern. At times, certain issues may require referral to a psychologist or psychiatrist, if the symptom does not have a physical cause. For example, this may be the case for certain mental health conditions with symptoms of hallucinations.

Anyone interested in becoming an audiologist should first earn a bachelor’s degree in a related field. Then, complete an audiology degree with internships and pass the ASHA Praxis Examination. The final step is becoming licensed in an individual’s particular state.
