Get proper stool testing!
Outlines the necessity for adequate multiple fixed smear stool testing by experienced parasitologists.

What is fixative? Why is it important?
Both Dientamoeba fragilis and Blastocystis hominis parasites are fragile, and soon after evacuation begin to break apart and become unrecognisable in the rest of the stool sample.
Fixative improves the accuracy of stool testing by preserving the structure of the parasite, making it easier for the pathology lab to identify the parasite.
The shedding of D. fragilis is highly irregular and variable and requires several stool examinations to detect trophozoites by microscopy. Because of this variability, as with other enteric protozoan infections the collection of multiple stool specimens is essential to aid in diagnosis, in particular when using microscopy.
B. hominis produces hardy, thick walled cysts. These cysts, which act as protective vessels for the parasite, can survive at room temperature for up to 19 days and in water, including water which has been chlorinated.
B. hominis can be diagnosed without fixative but it is often the hardy cysts which are identified. The existence of the cyst form was not confirmed until the early 1990s.
Fixative increases the likelihood of diagnosis because it enables all forms of Blasto. to be identified, not just the cysts. D. fragilis does not produce cysts.
Researchers have long assumed that the human pinworm Enterobius vermicularis may play a role in helping this parasite survive the journey through the human gut.
I strongly recommend one or more proper 3-day fixed parasitology stool test from a reputable pathology lab such as Histopath in Sydney.
