~ an ally of belief ~

I used to think of grace as a big bank of good stuff that you got kinda because you deserved it, even tho you messed up. I figured it cld be added to because there were little details in prayer books where numbers were attached to prayers detailing what they were worth. I mostly remember the ones that were spose to cut years off purgatory, cause I figured I wld need a lot of those (purgatory was where you went while you were waiting to get into heaven).
Whatever grace is, I think it’s a good thing to have lots of … because these are hard and complex times. And when people come along and tell you that in order for things to get better, all you have to do is believe – well, frankly they are asking a lot of each and everyone of us. However, I think earth has built up a large bank of grace over its entire existence. I think we may all partake of this grace.
I know its not easy to be optimistic in the face of disasters, of startling revelations, of out-and-out violations of one's personal space -- but the truth of it is – being optimistic works. Believing in oneself and each other -- works. Unfortunately, the opposite works, too. When you believe that others, particularly strangers, are incompetent, unforgiving, rude, violent, etc -- then it is highly likely you will encounter those kinds of people. When you believe the best in people, you are more likely to encounter the best in others.
Belief ignites spirit, and when spirit becomes united, it is powerful energy and can overcome anything technology has to offer. It is like a fire which burns, cleansing the body (or community) of pathogens, disease, disharmony. This power is cleansing and healing.
But stuff happens and it is sometimes difficult to keep up believing in oneself and each other, and that's when grace may step in and help you regain your footing. However one asks for it is probably of little consequence, but to understand that it is there to help us when we need it is, I think, useful information.
