Re: Day 4: Can't even call this a day 1
hi second glance girl!
well, if you read my previous post, you will see that you are DEFINETELY not alone in having a difficult time sticking to a fast. it does seem to me that the first few days are the hardest. it really is quite humbling. don't be so hard on yourself and if you are feeling scared. its good to simply just admit it like you did and then just continue on anyhow. i think that is what the forum is here for. i'm sure that i'll get a range of feelings that will not always be easy to deal with but no one is keeping score on each other . no one will chastise you if you are having a hard time. i know this sounds really corny but i actually have operated by this motto in ALL areas of my life ( not just fasting) and that is the old cliche:
" If at first you don't succeed, try try again."
I can't tell you how many times I have NOT gotten something at my first attempt ( many many times and this is in areas that have nothing to do with fasting AT ALL) and I just kept trying and trying until I got it. That is my secret formula to getting what I want ( LOL:) and I have been able to achieve a quite a few of the things that I wanted to in this manner but it was never easy ( to say in the least). Now, I'm just kind of used to it. I expect that the road won't always be smooth and easy so then I just continue on when things don't go my way.
Its also not always easy to admit that one has gotten off the path, but the way I see it, defeat only lies when someone quits following their own vision NOT when they continue to struggle and persevere. I've always struggled and persevered with things that REALLY matter to me and personally, I find that it has been worth it. The fact that I'm struggling with this fast is really no surprise to me. I just take it for granted, actually. However, day 1 for me is still going pretty well and I'm glad that I'm sticking with it.
Chris gave advice to lauray about reading literature as a source of inspiration. I've done that too ( even bought a video of a man that was interviewed throughout his successful thirty day water fast)and it really DOES help. I've also read quite a few blogs in the blogging forum that concerns people's successful fasts just to
get it into my subconscious that a successful fast really IS possible. So, there are a lot of ways to approach it. Get creative and try to make it fun.
Also, have a clear cut plan as to what you are going to do to occupy your time while you ARE fasting. This is helping me. I think what also keeps me going is that I know that I have been able to do longer fasts in the past ( though it was with juices) and they were good experiences so I know I can do this again.
Just keep at it. Don't get discouraged. We can all support each other :)
You can do it Second Glance Girl... also, I don't know what your background is, but make sure to read up as much as possible about what you are getting into ( if you haven't already). That is also really important to comparing how you are doing with what is "normal". If you educate yourself about it, you will get less scared and more confident that you can do what you set yourself out to do.
