Re: Been to the specialist today....
Hi Shroom,
I think your 'specialist' is basing his medical expertise on something I just read recently--wonder what percentage of people he says he helps with this protocol? I read an article of a similar theory [scientific american??--wish I had saved it], where there is suspicion that people afflicted with schizophrenia [don't like labels, but needed to categorize these particular symptoms] might in fact be infected with a
parasite that was passed down from the womb, theorizing that the anti-psychotic drug stops the proliferation of the organism. I wouldn't be surprised if many symptoms that we label mental illnesses are bacterial and parasitic in nature but we don't have the resources, knowledge and sensitive enough testing. Until we have better diagnostics, I think that continuing to create a hostile environment, coupled with cleansing makes sense...but if it failed to curb the symptoms, I might be willing to take a risk by taking a prescription, depending upon the drug. I didn't really cherish the idea, but ended up taking menbendazole just because I got very sick with anti-parasitic herbs...so lately I have been just taking one herb at a time, then alternate boosting my immune system with an IP6 supplement. My sensitivity and / or infection level was such that if I took more than one olive leaf extract capsule per day [which definitely has helped keep lesions and itching at bay], I would wake up with a raging headache, no energy and achiness all over--same happens to me if I take raw garlic at night...I have given up on that one for now. But I am feeling better and if I need to, think I can work up to two olive leaf capsules again, quite possibly because of the Menbendazole.
I think your thought about the gut-immune link is a good one. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think drugs like zelnorm, prescrbed for IBS symptoms [now taken off the market] are targeting the immune system in your intestinal track. So I think in general, medical research is leaning in that direction too, just going about it in the wrong way by using poorly tested, unsafe drugs for profit.
