Re: post maybe should be in market forum
hello apxr...you raise some goods points for reflection.
the term political correctness is sometimes used, in a critical fashion to express concern about dilution of freedom of speech...which is, I think, the way you are using the term here....saying that one is not as free to mention certain things because it may be seen as promotion, and essentially, there's a loss of freedom of speech in some areas because of this... or at least a cautioning of the choosen words.
you may have noticed, curezone does a lot to keep freedom of speech, it's one of the reasons there's such an array of forums. But to keep some order within the forums, it's sometimes necessary to divide areas that can be conflicting to each other, as well as detrimental to forum members... if kept together. This isn't to limit freedom of speech, infact it isn't limited at all...it's just put in another forum. Hence some forums are separated, like support and debate, and like promotion and support.
It is quite possible to post in
Support Forums without mentioning associations in business and still not lose quality....we have a great forum here, with a wealth of information and support,...it is most certainly attainable without any mention of promotion.
The rule of no promotion is just a rule.
It maybe that you are suggesting you disagree with the rule itself, and one should be free to mention business associations should it seem appropriate, for whatever reason.....that'd you'd have to speak with someone else about.
You see the problem comes in if the rule about no promotion (even unintentional), is left ambiguous like this. We can't have rules that say don't promote, unless done only a little, or not too noticably, or if it's tied into something else that's being said, or it's good for you anyhow....., or any number of other disclaimers.
We'd have a circus. It leaves the door wide open for anyone to (theoretically) promote, because one could always say...but it's just sort of within the idea we were discussing and my intention is not to sell anything to anyone.
We wouldn't have a forum free of promotion in the least, and this is why the rules are made as they are.
Your concern similarily about phraseology of conflict of interest, follows the same reasoning. And by the way, when I'm speaking of conflict of interest or promotion, as above, I mean not the intent to do so, but that action having taken place...ie mention of business of which one is associated with...that is the promotion, (intentional or not) and that is the conflict of interest (intentional or not).
So in making the rules, we don't say conflict of interest is "maybe conflict of interest" or "could be seen as conflict of interest"...we call it conflict of interest. Otherwise we don't even know what's conflict of interest anymore, maybe yes, maybe no.
The rules can't be ambiguous like this, again...a circus ...the intent of someone may not be to have this conflict of interest...however the rules are not based on intent, otherwise anyone can promote and just say that's your interpretation of my intent, I was just mentioning it, I didn't mean to sell anything.
The rules are based on the ACT...if mention has happened, it is seen as promotion, regardless of intent, and it is seen as conflict of interest, regardless of intent...so the rules are not casting personal judgement on the poster...it is speaking in the general sense of acts which occur and are not allowed, and that is all.
Good topics to discuss, thanks for the attention.
