Advice Needed! Vet Said My cat Is Pre-Diabetic What Diet Should I Feed Her?

Hi All,

Edit:  I found a link here that is helpful http://curezone.com/forums/fm.asp?i=75897#i   but any other suggestions would be helpful  :)

Any suggestions as to what diet should I give my 10 year old cat to control her Pre-Diabetes? Her Vet just diagnosed her with this today? I DON'T want to have to eventually have to give her insulin.

The vet said she has elevated Glucose in her blood and getting extra protein in her urine indicating her kidneys are letting the protein through, I guess not assimilating it, maybe her kidneys aren't functioning optimally. Everything else on her blood test were normal She tested EVERYTHING.

I've tried to give her different kinds of raw meat before, but only ate, very reluctantly, a little piece of raw chicken and doesn't like it and won't eat any other kinds of raw meat, so I gave up.

She said that I need to give her "DM Purina Prescription" can and dry which has low carbs, would this be good?. She said I can only get it at HER office and that it is very expensive.

I know Vet's don't know everything about diet. Any suggestions on what brand I could give her to control this.

My cat has been at the vet's office now for 31 hours, they would not let her leave until she has a BM, they are giving her an enema now, antibiotics, and pain medication, they have taken blood, giving her subcutaneous fluids (IV) (for dehydration) and an X-Ray and got her urine out with a needle! I would prefer that she didn't have ANY Drugs, My poor baby girl :(

She went in due to her throwing up yellow for almost 2 days (Bile), she had a fever too. Her diagnosis, so far is "some kind of infection".

I will not allow her to be vaccinated, she got a pea size lump at the injection site after her last vaccination many years ago and had to have surgery to remove it in case it was FAVS (Feline Associated Vaccine Sarcoma/Cancer). It turned out to be benign, and 7 inches of stitches later and very sick from the Anasthesia!

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated for my little baby's diet for Pre-Diabetes.

Her Dr. wanted to give her drugs for her joint stiffness, I did some alternative research for this and told the vet NO, and got her Flexicose, it WORKS, now she is jumping and running with ease, they see that Flexicose has healed her arthritis, but they won't admit it.

I also got her some Bach's Rescue Remedy (instead of tranqualizers that they want to give her) for her car rides and stressful emergencies. It worked like a charm, she only meowed once on the way, instead of constant howling the whole way, and also when she was sick, she wouldn't/couldn't sleep, I put some on her ears and head and lips and within a minute, she layed her head down and slept a little, YESSS! NO drugs.

I will research the net for natural diets for cats with Diabetes and post what I find.

Thank you so much for all your wise advice,

2Health
