Diabetic senior cat
Hello,
My cat Indiana is fourteen years old. He was diagnosed as diabetic a couple years ago, and since then I have been feeding him Purina DM (Diabetic Management), a prescription cat food. I also give him insulin shots twice a day.
Lately, tho, I have had to increase his insulin dosage. I'm still working it out, but it looks like it will be 6 units twice a day.
Are there any types of food I can give him to try to reduce his dependency on insulin? He is a very happy cat, and healthy other than the diabetes and (rarely) a touch of
Arthritis in one leg. I have had him since he was a kitten.
His food is also very expensive, but I'm afraid to switch him off of it, because it has helped. I'm looking for something I could maybe feed him in addition to his regular food.
Can anyone advise?
