Re: Advice Needed! Vet Said My cat Is Pre-Diabetic What Diet Should I Feed Her?
The food Petco is telling you is high quality is not the issue. There are many great quality foods that are not appropriate for diabetics. Diabetics need to be on very low carbohydrate diets. Preferably canned food which is the lowest. If you must use dry food Evo and Young Again are the lowest. Petco doesn't sell these foods. You need to go to a higher end pet store or try online food delivery services. You can go to the websites for these foods and they will tell you where you can get them near you. There are also the prescription foods that you can get at your vet.
THE SALES PEOPLE AT PETCO (or stores like it) ARE NOT PET NUTRITIONISTS OR VETERINARIANS. If you have a cat with a specific health issue you should ask your vet for advise. These online forums are also good places because their cats have the same problem and can advise you as to what works best for their cat.
In order to be remotely low carb, the dry food should be grain free, high
Protein. NO RICE, NO CORN, NO BARLY ETC. THE FIRST INGREDIENT NEEDS TO BE PROTEIN.
Good luck!
