Please, DON'T SHOOT!
Just to be clear, I'm asking questions. I'm not making any declarations or trying to debunk any ideas here, I'm just curious, and wanted to post my thoughts for feedback.
Okay...
Stomach Cancer. Alright I said it, now I will pose my questions.
Could high
Iodine intake(13mg plus) over a long period of time increase the possibility of stomach cancer?
I ask because I have so often read how in Japan there is a low incidence of most cancers. However, the most common cancer in Japan is stomach cancer, and they also are said to have the highest rate of incidence and mortality from stomach cancer in the world. Not only that, but another high
Iodine consumer, Iceland, is also noted for their high incidence of stomach cancer. Overall, they tend to be lower in other cancers conpared to other 'Eur-A' countries.
I'm aware of the connection between high molybdenum and esophageal cancer in Japan, but was not able to find any connection between moly and stomach cancer.

So, I'm wondering if anyone is aware of any additional information on stomach cancer and iodine? I don't question that we Westerners are
Iodine deficient. I'm just interested to know more. Is there a connection? If so, is it based on length of time of consumption, amount of daily consumption, other foods eaten on a regular basis? Nitrosamines have been mentioned as a cause of stomach cancer, could this explain it all, or is iodine connected in some way?
Lugol's has been around a long time, are there any long-term studies on this aspect of iodine, perhaps? Can someone ask the docs who know?
The other curious part is that as these areas are shifting their diets to more western foods, their rates of stomach cancer is starting to decrease. Now we all know that it isn't due to the great nutritional value of western foods, so could it have something to do with the gradual reduction in high iodine foods? Or is there another simultaneous change that is affecting the cancer rates?
I watched my aunt die a very slow, painful death from stomach cancer, and I'd really rather not endure that myself. I know there are many benefits from iodine supplementation just from my own physical improvements so far. I'm just the cautious type.
