I know exactly what you mean, as I replied to Us post earlier:
Unyquity, How right you are! The ego is a horribly deceitful thing. Not wanting to be found wrong in the presence of another is one thing, but..... It even causes us to REFUSE to search for truth in the privacy of our "aloneness" within ourselves. We can't even willingly look in a mirror and say "you've been wrong". And yes, often times it is a struggle, and yet other times it's like a lightbulb and the reaction is like "OH, I knew that all along, it was just buried too deep."

I have found that I have had to shed much of the former things I was taught, things I thought to be true, things I heard and accepted as truth, and found that some things I have to think about and like you said, "decide" about, while others, there seems to be an inner "knowing". (I don't know what FWIW is!!!) To me there is a great difference in "believing" and "knowing". This may not be the best way to think, but I've come to this conclusion, the farther I go from what the SYSTEMS of this world tries to tell me and teach me, the better off I am.
