The body works even better when provided with the proper amount of that which it needs. It is also capable of forfeiting excess of that which it needs and in fact operates on this principle regularly; urine typically contains about 140 ppm calcium, yet, many foods contain calcium.
The body also works in the presence of things it doesnt need.
The body also doesn't work very well in the absence of a proper amount of things it does need; i.e., cretinism, beri-beri...
The body may even appear to work better in the short term when supplied with substances that actually have a negative effect in the long term.
I believe we are fortunate that our MD Professor friends have studied
Iodine extensively and were able to conclude the current RDA appears to be far below actual body needs.
