while the future is not set in stone, there are certain events that are more likely to happen than others. if you dont study for a test at all, its likely (tho not absolutely guaranteed) you will do poorly on it.

so in this case, there are certain horses that are more likley to win a specific race than other horses. so its theoretically possible you could somehow clue into which ones are more likely to win and place bets on them.

as for winners/losers, well there will be winners and losers regardless of if you bet or not, your betting has no impact on that issue. besides, when it comes to sporting events its a given that there will be winners and losers, everyone knows that going in. its why the game is played.
