Apparently, Dr. Heribert Weigert is our man! What have I found? FAR more than I can comprehend and "gel" together in a few minutes. But from what I can see/tell, he is/was a very gifted/respected scientist (physicist+) and
'standardized' at least a couple of solutions for staining various substances (to create constrast to be seen more easily under microscopic magnification)...amidst other voluminous quantities of research & achievements.

I haven't been able to find a wiki-type history/biography blurb anywhere, and since I never paid one bit of attention to the 'name' of Weigert (or any other name) when attempting to find good Lugol's (I only paid attention to the ingredients, ratio & grade), I'm not going to do any further searching on good ole Heribert :)

However, if you type "Heribert Weigert" into Google (or any other search engine), you'll have all the information you probably want for further research.
