Someone said colds actually start in the ear canals and that a couple drops of 3% hydrogen peroxide in each ear, repeated every few hours, if necessary, stops colds.

Another source said alternating hot and cold compresses help cold sores sometimes. Have you tried applying sliced raw garlic to the sore? Slicing releases some of the juice.
