I'm afraid I cannot agree with you completely. Its true that no one can be helped until they are willing to help themselves, but we do have the power to help others with advice, support and encouragement. One of the tenants of my faith is that we need to be available to help those in need. Doing this for ego's sake is probably the worst reason to reach out to people. Helping others in whatever way is needed is a ministry that comes from the heart, not the ego, or the bank account.
As far as personal responsibility becoming a buzzword; I believe that taking back control and accepting personal responsibility is the basis for natural healing and alternative health. Too many people have relinquished their power to choose and blindly place their trust in the medical profession, the pharmaceutical corporations and even quack healers who promise much more than they can deliver.
