I suggest you to look out for the "dirty dozen" list of the worst offenders amongst the conventional fruits/veggies. There is also a list of the less treated items. IMO some are quite edible ( cabbage, broccoli, and cauliflower being the "cleanest", so say my taste buds).
Here in Italy where I live, I have found a store that sells conventional produce that is raised with fertilizers ( so it surely has not as much minerals as organic), but it is guaranteed to have 70% less pesticides than allowed. They use insects to prevent parasites.

Just to inform you there are a lot of middle paths out there.
